Just merely giving up things like smoking, eating non-veg., anger etc does not imply maturity. One has to to grow out of them with clear understanding of the value of things.
If you give up something, the taste or value for that object or thing still remains in the mind. That is why the person still talks about the things he/she has given up. The given up object still has some lingering tempting value for you and its is subdued desire.
Growing out of a thing means that you no longer have neither any longing nor hatred or desire for them.
Mearly giving up is escaping from a situation. Giving up makes you weaker from inside and not stonger.
Giving up is effortless (sukham) if done with maturity.
I fully agree with what you have said about effortless giving up. This requires taming the devil inside our mind which requires Satsang i.e. company of good people or media like TV, books, newspaper and internet blogs. Thanks for the wisdom words.
ReplyDeleteYou are right -- one does need lot of Satsang plus introspection, reflection and contempletion. Have to follow the 4 persuits -- Sravana, manana, chintan and Niddhidyasana.
